Manager, Operations & Work Execution

As a Manager, Operations and Work Execution, you will provide direction for the Operations and Work Execution functions of all Hydro Generation facilities. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Hydro Production, you provide the management and direction for the maintenance, operation and reliability of the station related activities and assets. You will provide leadership, direction and support for Plant, reservoir, support structures and associated equipment with an emphasis on safety, maintenance, operations, reliability, quality, cost and timely delivery.
You exercise a high level of personal initiative and judgement in ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable functioning of all assets under Hydro Generation. This role provides leadership to maintenance teams, and has budgetary management accountabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Implementation of the approved corporate maintenance and operations philosophy.
- Ensures that the annual maintenance plan is developed reflecting operating and capital requirements, and executes it.
- Effective management of operating and capital budgets costs, ensures they are reviewed, reforecast, and controlled within approved limits and justified to reflect the plan.
- Manages resource allocation and master schedules incorporating approved training, vacations, average sick leave, and temporary employees.
- Implementation of the approved Safety and Health Program including monitoring for compliance and appropriate corrective action taken.
- Ensures the safe work practices/procedures/standards for site are developed and monitors for compliance.
- Ensures a five-year training program is prepared and implemented reflecting individual training needs and approved training is scheduled.
- Participates in hiring and placement of staff. Ensures individual performance standards and conducts performance appraisals and reviews.
- Ensures the Collective Agreement and Corrective Action Programs are properly administered.
- Participates in development of enterprise risk management, and business continuity plans.
- Supports long term and short term planning personnel, in building annual maintenance plan and schedules for project work and maintenance, using priority and equipment service availability constraints.
- Reports on progress of the annual maintenance plan / PM's and informs long term planning staff on same.
- Responsible for the implementation of the corporate maintenance and operations philosophy in corroboration with other department managers.
- Promotes and complies with the Corporate EMS Program and ISO 14001.
- Ensures that procedures identified in the EMS are followed and that employees are aware of all environmental responsibilities.
- Monitors schedules for all projects to achieve target dates including coordination with other departments/divisions to ensure project delivery is as planned.
- Ensure that activities are coordinated with Plants, Regions, and Corporate Department.
Job Requirements:
This position operates in a highly technical field, requiring an engineering degree (Electrical preferred) or graduation from a three-year engineering technology course (Electrical preferred). You also have a minimum seven (7) years of progressively responsible electric utility experience with relevant and transferable experience at the supervisory or management level. A combination of relevant education and experience may also be accepted.
You have excellent relationship building and communication skills as well as a proven background in team building, decision making and leadership. You are well versed in planning, organizing and supervising in a highly technical environment. You have experience in the administration of collective agreements. You are proficient in various computer programs and corporate applications such as MS Office, JD Edwards, maintenance programs etc.
